Description
Machined linkage arm for road-maintenance equipment
The part is a linkage-style arm with large circular bearing locations at the ends and smaller holes along the body. For this geometry, the center-to-center distance between bores matters more than the overall outline because that distance controls the motion of the mechanism.
Machining a linkage part
The body can be rough-shaped first, followed by finish boring and face machining at the connection points. If the part is heat treated, final bore sizing should be planned after the thermal process where necessary.
What controls the final fit
- Specify both main bore diameters and their center distance.
- Identify any bushing or pin fits at the large circular ends.
- Keep smaller drilled features referenced to the main bore datums so they stay in the correct position after machining.
What to include with the inquiry: Include the linkage drawing, carbon-steel grade, pin or bushing dimensions and any hardness or coating requirement.
