Description
Machined cast-iron housing with a circular mounting flange
This is a cast housing with a large circular flange, a central bore and an additional mounting lug. The casting creates the basic shape, while the machined faces establish how the housing locates in the assembly. Those machined datums should be defined first and everything else referenced back to them.
Key dimensions to define
Machine the central bore and flange face as the primary locating features.
Position the perimeter holes from the bore center rather than from rough cast edges.
Allow sufficient machining stock on the lug and any cast surfaces that must become functional faces.
Cast iron is well suited to this housing form, but the drawing should distinguish as-cast surfaces from machined ones. This prevents unnecessary machining and makes inspection much clearer.
