Description
Large flanged shaft for heavy-duty assemblies
The part combines a long stepped shaft with a wide circular flange and a bolt-hole pattern. On a component of this size, flange flatness and the relationship between the bolt circle and shaft axis are usually more important than the appearance of individual machined surfaces.
Material and machining considerations
Carbon steel and alloy steel can both be used for this type of geometry, but the selected grade and any heat treatment change machining allowance and final inspection planning. Large turned sections also need enough stock for cleanup without creating unnecessary material cost.
Assembly-related dimensions
Keep the flange face square to the shaft axis and control runout at the outer diameter.
Locate the bolt-hole circle from the same centerline used for the shaft diameters.
Define the transition radii between large and small sections rather than leaving them as generic edges.
