Carbon-steel switch lever with a large pivot bore
This lever has a large circular pivot, a long tapered arm and a small round boss near the end. The large bore establishes the rotational center; the end boss then needs to land at the correct radius and angle from that center.
Critical relationships in the part
- Use the large pivot bore as the main datum.
- Define the end boss or pin location by true position from the pivot center.
- Control the side faces around the bore if the lever runs between spacers or washers.
Machining the lever around one pivot datum
Rough profile machining can be completed first, followed by finish boring and the end feature in a single datum scheme. This avoids stacking error from the outside contour.
