1. Different nature

Second, the process is different

1. Carburizing: Put the workpiece into the active carburizing medium, heat it to the single-phase austenite zone of 900--950 degrees Celsius, and keep the heat for a sufficient time, so that the active carbon atoms decomposed in the carburizing medium infiltrate the steel parts The surface layer, so as to obtain high carbon surface layer, the core still maintains the original composition. Similar to low temperature nitriding treatment. This is a common heat treatment process for metal materials.

2. Nitriding: Put the workpiece into a sealed container, pass the flowing ammonia gas and heat it. After a long time of heat preservation, the ammonia gas thermally decomposes to generate active nitrogen atoms, which are continuously adsorbed to the surface of the workpiece and diffuse into the surface of the workpiece. Thus, the chemical composition and structure of the surface layer are changed, and excellent surface properties are obtained.

Three, different characteristics

1. Carburizing: The carbon content of carburizing steel is generally in the range of 0.15--0.25%. For heavy-duty cementite, it can be increased to 0.25--0.30% of carbon carburizing steel, which is the most used. It is 15 and 20 steel, their surface hardness can reach 56--62HRC after carburizing and heat treatment.

2. Nitriding: Preliminary heat treatment before nitriding quenching and tempering -- the nitriding workpiece should be quenched and tempered before nitriding to obtain a tempered sorbite structure. The tempering temperature of the quenching and tempering treatment is generally higher than the nitriding temperature.
